Meet Our Birth Assistants

At New Birth Midwifery, we value our clients being fully supported by a team – there will be one of the 5 midwives with you as your primary provider (see midwife bios) but in order to grow from a busy home birth practice to include birth center care as well we are bringing in a few birth assistants who are also fully qualified midwives.

These two midwives have other things they are also focusing on in addition to working with NBM meaning they will be assisting at births and doing some clinic for us.

  • Heather Uribe is a new CNM and an NBM client who has two very little and very cute little girls. We hope to fully bring her onto our team when she is ready but for now, we will happily take the hours she is able to give us!
  • Melinda Knatterud is a new CPM who lives in St. Paul and trained with our team for part of her student journey. She is a busy mom of 5 and is starting her own homebirth practice but while she gets that going she has some time she is willing to give our team to come help at births! We are so excited to have her since our clients loved her so much when she was a student with us and we all already know we work very well together.

Heather Uribe

CNM, APRN

Hi! I’m Heather and I am a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in the state of MN. CNMs can care for women in pregnancy and birth as well as across the lifespan as a primary care provider, including well-woman and gynecological visits.

I love everything about supporting women through this amazing journey into motherhood but after taking and passing my boards in 2022, I didn’t know how to do both the kind of midwifery and motherhood that I was passionate about. After my second birth with New Birth, Jenny and Sarah approached me saying whenever I was ready to let them know and they would find a way to help me do both.

Now the time has come! I cannot fathom a better place and people starting out my career as a midwife.

Although my path to get here has been more drawn out a bit, it allowed me to hone my values and priorities and to continue learning. Our bodies are created to be so innately intelligent, and when given the proper tools (especially through nourishment), our bodies work diligently towards balance and healing.

Pregnancy and birth are incredible because they are normal physiological processes – processes that most often function best with minimal intervention and interruption. I have always been health-concious, but like many, was steered in many unhelpful directions. The more we know, the more we realize what we don’t know after all, so I by no means have much figured out.

I do know what has helped me to live a more vibrant and nourished life (physically, emotionally and spiritually nourished, that is), to step more-fully into my role as a woman and wife and mother and now midwife. To understand the radical responsibility required to make confident decisions for myself and my family without outsourcing decisions to others. It is exciting to me to nudge other women towards exploring these things for themselves, to guide women to discover and step into vibrant, holistic wellness themselves, and what better time than while starting and growing their families.
