If you have attended a consultation with one of our midwives or have done a group consult and are ready to start care we are happy to have you! Welcome to the family. We are excited to get to know you better and help you navigate this new and exciting time in your life with less stress and more support.
Generally speaking we like to see clients for their initial prenatal visit between 9-12 weeks of pregnancy, we most of the time can find baby heartbeats with our dopplers between 10-12 weeks but we also have a bedside ultrasound we can use if baby is wanting to hide from our doppler.
This appointment is on the long side, so while we are very family friendly we do recommend if possible that you don’t bring little kids with you or if you do, that there is an adult who is more able to concentrate on their needs while the client is filling out paperwork or going through medical history questions.
You will want to be well hydrated and have eaten recently, possibly bring a snack since we usually will do a blood draw at this appointment and depending on the amount of tests you consent to it can be a few tubes.
The easy answer is yes! Changing your prenatal care and delivery plans might feel like a big task, but at New Birth, we make it easy. If you are not happy with your current care, looking for a more supportive birth environment or you are wanting a more home like birth location like our birth center or perhaps even your own home, then transferring your care to New Birth might be the right move for you.
NBWC will accept transfer clients during all trimesters up to 38 weeks. We also accept VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) clients! All clients transferring into our care must have been seen by a provider for the current pregnancy before 28 weeks gestation.
Transferring your care to New Birth Midwifery is easy, since you are likely further along in your pregnancy, we recommend that you read through our Birth Center Risk Criteria first to make sure you are a good candidate for community birth, if so, we suggest that you either fill out our contact form on the website or call us at 952-856-0071 ext 0 to schedule a consultation.
