Pregnancy and childbirth are transformative experiences in a woman’s life. Choosing the right environment for this journey is crucial. When a family chooses to have a home birth with us we will bring a fully qualified team to your home (allowing you to continue to labor undisturbed by a drive and change of scenery) that you know well and who knows you.
At NBM, you will receive highly individualized care throughout your pregnancy and childbirth journey. The midwifery model of care emphasizes building a close and trusting relationship between the expectant mother and her care team. This personalized approach fosters a deeper connection and understanding of your unique needs. Studies have shown that planned home births with a midwife often achieve patient satisfaction rates of over 95% due to the personalized care and one-on-one attention provided to expectant mothers.
A groundbreaking study was done in 2014 on planned home births in the US confirming what midwives already know – families planning a home birth with a qualified provider who are low-risk have great outcomes. Some of our stats recently are:
At home you are exposed only to your own microbiomes that you are already used to and are protective to you. This means a healthier start for your family.
Since the birth is planned in your own home, you choose who to invite in and those that are invited in are guests in your space. You can choose to add extra support to your team like a doula or a birth photographer or even other families members. You can keep your kids home with you or you can prepare them for a fun sleep over at a grandparents’ house or a neighbor’s. Because this is your home, you know where you are most comfortable and when you feel safe and loved oxytocin increases and adrenaline decreases making the hard work of labor just that – hard work but not scary and full of pain.
Done in the comfort of your own home, in your own bed! Midwives stay with the family until both mom and baby have transitioned well and are stable. Usually 2-4 hours after delivery. Then we return for 2 home visits to keep checking on the new dyad in the first week postpartum.
We have small group consults that we schedule a few times a month to tour the birth center. In a small group setting we go through a powerpoint, show you around the birth center and have time after to answer any questions you might have or set up your initial visit with us. If you have specific concerns or the times set up for the group consults don’t work for you, feel free to ask for a one-on-one consult with one of our midwives. These can be done in person or via zoom.
