Postpartum Care

Post-Birth

Full support for mom and baby.

We know that adjusting to life with a newborn—as wonderful as it is—can be challenging. That’s why we provide full support through the adjustment period. We are trained to help establish breastfeeding and will continue to provide the care you need through the first 6 weeks.

Includes:

Postpartum Visits

New Birth Midwifery believes strongly that the best place for bonding to happen with a new baby and healing to occur for mom is in her home, resting with her baby. So, we commit to doing 3 in home visits in the first week after delivery so the family can stay at home, resting in their birth bubble. Then, when you are ready to start trying the world on again for size we welcome you back into our clinic space for care through 6 weeks postpartum to give you time to find a good pediatrician and other support to continue on your journey.

  • Home visits on Day 1, 3 and 7
  • Visits at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks

Informed Consent

No test is mandatory. Some are more strongly recommended than others, but as parents choosing a home birth, you are already taking more responsibility for your pregnancy and birth outcome and desire to take the decision making power back – and we freely give it.

  • Everything in the comfort of your home
  • Newborn blood and hearing screenings
  • Pap smear done at 6 weeks or after (if desired)

Care

The midwives at NBM are trained and come often enough to see problems before they become difficult to deal with and we have an extensive network of lactation consultants, IBCLC’s, craniosacral therapists, pelvic floor therapists and so much more. We see you often through the 6 weeks to help you identify issues that without follow up could become problematic helping you to breastfeed longer and better should that be your goal or support you in other ways as you become parents for the first time or the 7th!
